deliveries
I define a "delivery" as two or three items (maybe four, but let's not get nuts) that you need to transfer from one point to another within 20 miles of MTB World Headquarters, a.k.a. Old Town, Alexandria. A "delivery" is also a job where you're not personally relocating.Price structure: This is the only service for which I charge a minimum, which is one hour. (I recently decided to charge a minimum after it took me 2.5 hours to reach a job that took us 14 minutes to complete.) I strive to be fair and reasonable, so if the job is REALLY small, I'm open to negotiating the rate. (I'm not going to charge someone $100 to move a chair to the building next door. Lol.)

small moves
The vast majority of the work we do falls into the small move category. These are more time-intensive than deliveries and can include anything anything up to a two-bedroom apartment. (MTB uses 16 foot box trucks. They're great for 99 percent of the jobs we do, but anything larger than a 1.5 bedroom place might require a larger rented truck.)
After approaching nearly 3,500 moves, I have quite conclusively...uh...concluded that three men and a 16 foot box truck is the best configuration for most jobs. In short, it's the fastest, most efficient way to get the job done at a fair price while remaining (marginally) profitable. It allows one guy to strap and secure things in the truck while allowing two guys to continually bring things TO the truck.

Big Moves
These are two-bedroom apartments/houses or larger, and require a larger rental truck. I also put multiple-stop jobs in this category. (For example, if you and a roommate are moving from two separate apartments/houses into one new location, that's three stops.) Our new trucks can only accommodate about a one-bedroom apartment's worth of "stuff," so if time is a factor, or we want to avoid multiple trips, (such as if there's a great distance between locations), we'll have to get a bigger rental truck. I don't do a lot of these, but when my schedule allows, I'm more than happy to provide this service.
While most of these jobs can be completed with only three men, I may sometimes recommend four guys (usually no more than four) to complete the job in a timely, cost-effective manner.

Other Services
Sometimes people have those odd jobs like simple truck loads or unloads (say, if you're moving out of town), or you hate assembling Ikea furniture. No problem! We love to do that kind of thing. To inquire about estimates, go here.
MTB Ikea Run
Love Ikea but hate getting there, lugging flat-packed furniture to your car and trying to make it fit? Then don't! MTB is starting an Ikea run program. Let us do the shopping for you. Click here for more information about our Ikea runs.
How'd I get into this? It's an interesting story...
I didn't come to Washington to start a moving business. It just sort of happened... (More)
